Aaron Rodgers leads Green Bay Packers in comeback over Chicago Bears

The Green Bay Packers pull off another improbable comeback to beat the Chicago Bears 24-23. This win will get the Packers off to a 1-0 start and drop the Bears to 0-1. It was a game that fit the billing of a division rivalry.

At first the Bears gave the impression that they would be the ones to take this game after jumping out to a 20-0. Some of this was because Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers left in the first half with a knee injury.

However, he did play in parts of the first half where the Packers offense was lifeless. They were scoreless and did not even have 100 yards of total offense.

Things were progressing ideally for the Bears on the other hand. In Khalil Mack’s debut with the team he put on a show validating his huge contract with the team.

He made his presence felt with a sack and an interception he was able to return for a touchdown. Mack was terrorizing both Rodgers and backup quarterback Deshone Kizer for much of the game.

The Packers were under lock and key until Rodgers came back from his leg injury in the third quarter. A sight that Lambeau Field welcomed with cheers and applause from hundreds of Packer faithful who thought another season might  be over prematurely.

Instead, Rodgers put on a show despite his gimpy leg. He led a vintage comeback that saw the Packers go on a 24-3 run.

Their comeback consisted of a Mason Crosby 42-yard field goal near the end of the third quarter. Then the onslaught came. Rodgers first touchdown pass went to Geronimo Allison which made it 20-10. The following score was a strike to Davante Adams which made it 20-17.

Then following a late field goal from the Bears, the Pack did it again. Rodgers and wide receiver Randall Cobb were able to connect on an electrifying 75-yard touchdown that put them ahead 24-23. The Packers put up 21 points in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.

It was a jaw dropping comeback following a moment where Packers fans saw their season hanging in the balance. For the Bears it was a tough loss after having been so dominant in the earlier parts of the game.

Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky had a sub-par performance for the most part. He was 23 of 35 for 171 yards with a 29.5 quarterback rating and 77.2 passer rating. He did have 32 yards rushing and one rushing touchdown.

Rodgers who was anemic in the first half and came alive in the second for a complete game. He was 20 of 30 for 286 yards and three touchdowns with a 43.7 quarterback rating and 130.7 passer rating. He also went for 15 yards rushing.

This win will carry the Packers into next week where they will face off against another division rival in the Minnesota Vikings. While the Bears will try to bounce back against the Seattle Seahawks.
