This upcoming season will be different from any the Los Angeles Rams have faced in over a decade. It is a season with expectations and promise due to the talent on their roster. One of their talents is safety/cornerback Lamarcus Joyner.
Joyner was taken by the Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft and has grown into a big contributor for their defense and special teams. He started and played in 12 games for the Rams last season.
Despite the multiple hats he wears, it does not appear Joyner and the Rams will reach an agreement on a long-term deal.
The two sides have until 4 p.m. EST to work out a deal but it seems unlikely per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Joyner got the Rams franchise tag which will pay him north of $11 million this year.
The Rams could find themselves in a similar situation with Joyner next year. Another tag would pay him $13.5 million in 2019.
Los Angeles is straying from long-term contracts with a contract for Aaron Donald on the horizon. Donald will get $6.8 million this year and is a restricted free agent in 2019.
