Los Angeles Rams extend head coach Sean McVay and GM Les Snead

The Los Angeles Rams extend two of the pillars of the organization in head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead. As a result, both McVay and Snead will be with the Rams through 2023. A level of security both men deserve at this point.

Both McVay and Snead have had their own individual journeys in returning the Rams to relevance. Snead being the veteran going into his eighth year with the team. Snead took over in 2012 fresh off of a 2-14 season for the previous regime.

The Rams did improve in Snead’s first few years but were unable to get over the winning hump. However, many credit the coaching of former coach Jeff Fisher for the team’s struggles.

Snead was able to compile talent on the roster by drafting the likes of Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley, Jared Goff, Michael Brockers and Greg Zuerlein. Despite the group of diverse talent, the Rams were not a winning team.

It was not until the organization made the move to hire McVay that things began to change. McVay at the time of his hiring was the youngest head coaching hire in NFL history. The Rams have had a facelift since hiring McVay.

In two McVay years, the Rams are 24-8 in the regular season. They have also won back-to-back division titles, a feat they have not done since the ’70s. Most importantly they have been to the playoffs two years in a row with one Super Bowl appearance.

The Rams have made a huge turnaround in what feels like a short amount of time. At a press conference, McVay spoke on the extension and what it means for the team.

“It’s a blessing, but it’s also a reflection of a great collaboration of everybodies work together.

The culture this team has established is emblematic of some of the most successful ones in NFL history. Now they hope both men will be able to carry this team to greater success moving forward.
