2017 was quite the year for the Los Angeles Rams second-year quarterback Jared Goff. Goff’s season went so well that he has been named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.
Goff will be a Pro Bowl alternate, filling in for injured Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. Goff will be joining running back Todd Gurley, offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth, defensive tackle Aaron Donald, kicker Greg Zuerlein, punter Johnny Hekker and return man Pharoh Cooper as several Rams players that will appear in the Pro Bowl.
This is a huge bounce back year for Goff who had a nightmarish rookie season under former head coach Jeff Fisher. In his first season with head coach Sean McVay, Goff threw for 3,804 yards, 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a 62.1 completion percentage.
Goff’s quarterback and passer ratings were a respectable 48.4 and 100.5. A huge improvement from his rookie season when his quarterback and passer ratings were an anemic 22.2 and 63.6.
Goff’s overall performance this year put him into some of the Rams single season record books.
He is ninth in franchise single season passing yardage and sixth in passing touchdowns. Goff was also the only quarterback in franchise history to pass for over 300 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in consecutive games.
The Rams overall success this season is a direct correlation to Goff’s improvements as a player. This team won its first NFC West crown since 2003 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
Goff’s impressive sophomore season has given the organization and fans much hope that this team will be even better next year.
This was a great season for Goff and the Rams, but not where they want to be next year. Next year this team hopes to be playing in the Mercedes-Benz stadium in February for the ultimate prize.
A goal that has become a reality since Goff has began to look like the Rams present and future franchise quarterback.
