Los Angeles Rams retool defense with Jalen Ramsey trade

The Los Angeles Rams land Jalen Ramsey in a huge deal that could revitalize their defense. Los Angeles trades two first-round picks in 2020 and 2021, and a fourth-round pick in 2021 to land Ramsey. This comes just a few days after the Rams lose their third straight game and drop to 3-3.

There was talk for months about Ramsey’s discontent with the Jacksonville Jaguars organization. He has missed the last three games due to lower back and hip issues. However, some feel as though his injuries did coincide with his trade request and wanting to leave Jacksonville.

In three seasons, Ramsey is a two-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro. In 51 games he has nine interceptions, 45 pass deflections, and has only allowed one touchdown. Many view Ramsey as one of the best corners in the NFL and can fill a deep need at the position for the Rams.

The deal comes after the Rams deal cornerback Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens for linebacker Kenny Young and a fifth-round pick. It also follows the Rams placing cornerback Aqib Talib on injured reserve due to a rib injury.

Ramsey will allow the Rams to play more man as it is one of his strengths which meshes well with their defense. He also will assume duties as the primary cover corner while Talib is out and possibly for the foreseeable future.

The Rams have Ramsey under contract for this season and the next. However, he has made it known he is in search of a new deal. His performance with the team will definitely go a long way towards getting a deal done.

Prior to the Ramsey trade, the Rams passing defense was 19th in yards and 15th in points.
