The Los Angeles Rams have their full artillery back in effect going into this season which is trouble for opposing teams. The return of wide-receiver Cooper Kupp gives the Rams a weapon they did not have for the majority of last year.
Cupp spoke on his injury during an interview with Myles Simmons and Sarina Morales stating he currently feels good.
“I feel good,” Kupp said. “Body feels great. When you haven’t played football in eight and a half months, nine months, you realize all the nuisances of the game that I think you over time just kind of forget about. I quickly got reintroduced to and it’s just about getting back into that rhythm.”
Starting quarterback Jared Goff and Kupp have a great relationship that translates to their connection on the field. Prior to his injury, Kupp was one of Goff’s favorite targets. His versatility in the offense gave them a multitude of looks they could run.
Prior to his torn ACL injury, Kupp had 40 receptions for 566 yards and six touchdowns in eight games. He caught 72.7 percent of the 55 targets Goff threw to him last season.
The Rams were on track to have three 1,000 yard receivers in Kupp, Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods before Kupp’s injury. However, Kupp’s injury did force third-year receiver Josh Reynolds to step up to fill the void.
Reynolds had 29 receptions for 402 yards and five touchdowns in eight games. While Kupp’s injury was unfortunate at the moment, it did allow Reynolds to further his growth. This gives the Rams a receiving corps booming with depth.
Not including the running backs, this receiver group is full of matchup problems. Each receiver in the group is versatile and can function in various roles in the offense. Whether it be in the slot, as a deep threat, or even out of the backfield on jet-sweeps. The combination of receivers will give defenses a multitude of looks to keep them guessing.
The Rams were the second best offense in the NFL last year without all their players available. It is scary to imagine what they will be a year later fully healthy.
